The Best All Around Fishing Line
So what the heck? Which of these fishing lines are the strongest? Which of these fishing lines are the best? And how in the world are you supposed to know which one to pick? Trying to do this on your own, especially if you new to fishing, can be really frustrating.
That’s exactly why I wanted to put together this quick post…to help eliminate as much of the “fishing line chaos” as possible. I wanted to share with you what I’ve found to be the best all around fishing line. And to me what that means is, for the money, which fishing line is:
- The strongest
- Easiest to use
- Has low memory and
- Is low stretch
So let’s get right to it. Which fishing line is the best all around fishing line? After experimenting with many different types of fishing line over the years, and fishing for many different species of fish with both spinning reels and baitcaster reels, in both saltwater and freshwater, I’ve decided that the best all around fishing line is Power Pro Spectra Fiber Braided Fishing Line and Sufix Elite Hi-Vis Yellow Fishing Line.
1. Power Pro Spectra Braided Line
- Incredibly round, smooth and sensitive line
- Enhanced body technology (bet) boosts handling performance
- Constructed with spectra fiber for incredible abrasion resistance
- High strength-to-diameter ratio
Here’s why I like Power Pro Spectra As The Best All Around Fishing Line
Power Pro Spectra uses the Enhanced Body Technology which provides a round, smooth and structurally superior ultra-strong fishing line. The line has virtually no memory or coil, virtually zero stretch and is incredibly strong. It’s a combination of these characteristics along with affordability that makes Power Pro Spectra the best all around fishing line.
Long Lasting
I’ve found that Power Pro braided line las longer than the other brands. This is because it does such a great job at not fraying. Frayed line is an issue that occurs with all braided lines, but this one just has the ability to outperform all the others when it comes to preventing fraying.
Good In Saltwater And Freshwater
Power Pro Spectra works great in both freshwater and saltwater conditions. And because its so strong and resistant to fraying, it makes the perfect fishing line for jetty fishing or fishing off the dock, where sharp rocks and barnacles would typically cut your line in a flash. Or in freshwater fishing for bass or crappie where the line will frequently rub against submerged branches and logs, PowerPro will not fray or break down. Where other lines fail…this braided fishing line holds up.
Easy To Use
In addition to lasting longer, which means less respooling, Power Pro Spectra braided lines have excellent castability. Which is what it’s all about, right? There are some brands of braided line that tend to “flatten” out over time, which makes accurate casting almost impossible.
Low Memory
Power Pro braided line holds it’s true round shape and never flattens and is very thin in diameter when compared to other brands which means less drag when casting as well as in the water. This is especially true when compared to monofilament fishing line.
From the Power Pro Website: “It begins with ultra-strong braided Spectra Fiber, which is treated with the Enhanced Body Technology to create an incredibly round, smooth and sensitive line….Try PowerPro on your next fishing trip, and see for yourself why it’s every angler’s dream – and every fish’s nightmare! The workhorse of the PowerPro line-up. Value priced, and a great performing all around low stretch line.”
If your not using this line when fishing, I can honestly say that you are putting yourself at a severe disadvantage!

Final Thoughts
In my opinion, these are the two strongest fishing lines that also happen to be the best all around fishing line. I put this article together as a way to help you narrow down the selection from the hundreds of fishing line options that are out there. And as such, the lines I’ve chosen are not the end all and be all. There are really good fishing lines out there, but when it comes to looking for a combination of cost and which is the strongest, you can’t go wrong with either of these two fishing lines.
