About Me and The Fishing Skillz Website

Thanks for checking out my about page. Here’s a little bit about me…they guy behind FishingSkillz.com.

My name’s Don and I currently live in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve loved fishing and the outdoors for as long as I can remember. And now that I’m actually saying it, it’s hard to believe that’s around 40 years of fishing experience…give or take a few years. 🙂

Living in the Northwest, I’m surrounded by all different kinds of fishing, which I do my best to take advantage of. I can typically be found along the bank of a hight cascade stream chasing trout with my fly rod or at one of the numerous Willamette Valley ponds and lakes duping a largemouth bass with a senko.

But freshwater fishing is not even close to where my love of fishing ends. I love saltwater fishing too. When the salmon and steelhead are running, I’m there. If it’s halibut season, I’m there too.

I’ve fished for dorado and marlin in the Sea of Cortez and have caught yellowfin tuna and rooster fish in the warm Pacific waters off of Mexico.

Why I Started Fishing Skillz

The reason I created the Fishing Skillz website was because I always wanted to create and “blog” about something I loved. I’ve been able to help a lot of people get started with fishing in person, and I knew that with a website, I could do the same thing online.

I’ve been able to meet so many people and help them get their start with a new and fun hobby. And that’s exactly why I started the site.

As part of this, I’ve created numerous how-to-guides, from the general basics of fishing for beginners to tutorials on trout fishing, bass fishing and much more. These guides are step-by-step instructions on what to do, where to go and how to do it.

In addition to these fishing guides, I’ve also put my numerous years of fishing experience down in words when it comes to fishing gear. These “buying guides” are here to help you make the best decision possible when it comes time to either buy your first fishing setup or simply upgrade the gear that you currently have.
