Best Fishing Books For Beginners, Experts And Everyone In Between

I remember when I was 9 years old, my parents bought me a subscription to Field & Stream.  That magazine subscription was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.

I have very fond memories of lying on the floor reading articles about fishing tips and looking at images of hunting and fishing adventures that would only fuel my dreams then, and still to this day.

In the years that followed, I would receive other fishing magazines and books about fishing, all which helped teach me to become the fisherman I am today. These books about fishing would get me through those long stretches between fishing trips, until I could get my line back in the water.

In addition to reading these magazines as a kid, I would also load up on fishing books every time I would go to the library. It’s incredible how many books there are about fishing.

Do you remember when actual bookstores existed?  Instead of searching through Amazon, you would actually walk around and pick up books and thumb through them.

Well, the fishing and hunting/ Outdoors section of these bookstores also became one of my favorite places anytime we would go to the mall.  (Remember those things too?)

Many years have passed since those days, and to be completely honest, I currently spend probably 99% of my reading about fishing online now.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t pick up a good fishing book every once in a while.

As a matter of fact, that’s one of the reasons I’m writing this post.  My son is 8 years old now.  He loves fishing just as much as I did when I was that age. And my 5 year old daughter is quickly falling in love with fishing as well.

This last holiday season I decided to fill their stockings with miscellaneous fishing gear; Hooks, plastic worms, power bait, a pink tackle box for her…and of course something about fishing to read.

I remember the awesome memories I had with having books and magazines to read about fishing, and I want them to have that same access to this awesome sport. Especially since neither one of them is allowed to jump on the Internet and search for fishing sites like their Dad is able to do.

So that entire process of buying fishing gifts for them and reminiscing on my own childhood and fishing trips brought me to the point of wanting to share some of that joy and satisfaction with you.

That’s why I came up with this list of the best fishing books for all levels of fishermen.  Whether you’re looking for a fishing book for yourself or for a loved one, keep on reading. I’m convinced you’ll find one that meets your needs.

If for no other reason, pick up some good fishing reading material to get you through until you can get back out on the water…and I’ll see you out there.

Best Fishing Magazine

Field & Stream

I’m starting this list off in a little non-traditional kind of way.  My first mention is not a book, but a magazine.  This mention of a subscription to Field & Stream as my first pick is as a nod to my own childhood.

As I mentioned earlier, I literally cut my teeth on this magazine.  Before my parents bought me a subscription to Field & Stream, I was the lucky recipient of my uncles hand me down copies.  I was gifted grocery bags full of old copies of Field & Stream dating back to the 1970’s.  And I devoured every single one of them.

That’s what makes a subscription to Field & Stream, and any magazine for that matter, so awesome.  Every month you get one in the mailbox. You read it.  Maybe hang onto it for a bit.  Read it again, then pass it on.

If you’re not passing on your old copies of fishing magazines, please start doing this.  I promise, there’s a kid out there somewhere that would kill to get his hands on those fishing magazines.

Field & Stream is one of the most recognized magazines in hunting and fishing.  It is filled with pictures, articles and tips for all levels of fishing enthusiasts. That’s what makes it an excellent choice for beginners and experts alike.

Best Fishing Book For Beginners

There are a lot of books out there that claim to be the best fishing books for beginners. But I’ve narrowed it down to just this one.  Basic Fishing: A Beginners Guide.
