Best Fishing Line For Topwater Frog Fishing (Reviews)
The fishing line you choose to load up your reel with is quite possibly the most important factor when it comes to frog fishing for bass. This is one area you don’t want to cut corners on.
When bass crash through the weeds and take your topwater frog back down into the thick weeds, you’re going to need a heavy braided line on your reel to pull them back up to the surface.
In addition to needing a strong line to pull the bass through the weeds and lilly pads, it’s crucial to have a strong line to properly set the hook. If you can set the hook well and early, you stand a good chance of keeping the bass from going back down into the weeds.
So what is the best fishing line for topwater frog fishing?
Here’s a closer look at the 3 fishing lines I use any time I’m fishing with frogs. But first, there’s several things I always look for in my frog fishing line.
What To Look For In A Frog Fishing Line
The reason I use braided line when fishing with topwater frogs is because it’s strong and it doesn’t stretch like mono typically does. This is super important when it’s time to drive those hooks deep into the bass’s mouth.
50 lb Test or Stronger
In my experience, the line has to be at least 50 lb test. I know some bass fishermen will even use braid that’s much heavier. But I’ve found the sweet spot to be 50lb. This isn’t a hard rule though, and you’ll want to experiment with your own setup. You may find that 40lb test braid best suits your need. But for me, it’s 50.
Has To Float
Most braided fishing line floats. But this is something that you just want to make sure it does when it comes to fishing with topwater frogs. With the line floating on top of the surface, you’ll be able to give the frog the action you want it to have.

The Best Braid For Frog Fishing (Reviews)
1. P-Line TCB 8 Carrier(Top Pick)
If you’re new to braid, you’ll quickly find out that not all brands are created equal. And one of the most obvious signs of this being true is the noise that different braided lines create.
But with P-line TCB 8 you’ll not only have a strong, durable braid, but you’ll also have one of the quietest braided lines on the market. The reason they’re able to make this braid so quiet as it slips through your rods guides is because it is coated with DuPont’s Teflon Surface Protector.
The result? One of the quietest, strongest, abrasion resistant and longest casting braided lines on the market. With its smooth, round design, this braid casts extremely far, making it an excellent choice as a line for frog fishing.
If you’ve read any of my other reviews of my favorite braided lines, you’ll already know that PowerPro Spectra would make this list. This is by far one of my all time favorite braided fishing lines, and the same holds true when it comes to choosing a line for frog fishing.
Power Pro uses the exclusive Enhanced Body Technology which provides a rounder, smoother and structurally superior ultra-strong braided fishing line. All of this makes this not only the best braided fishing line for frog fishing, but the best braided line for jigging, casting, trolling and big game fishing.
I’ve found that Power Pro braided line tends to last longer than many other brands because it does such a great job at not fraying. Frayed line is an issue that occurs with all braided lines, but this one just has the ability to outperform all the others when it comes to preventing fraying.
And the last thing you want is to lose a largemouth in the weeds because of a frayed line. You won’t have to worry about that with this line.
KastKing SuperPower braided fishing line is another excellent choice for frog fishing. Their braided fishing line is specifically designed for increased casting distance and durability thanks to the lines extremely small diameter.
There’s no longer a need to be concerned about excessive fraying or line breakage with this braid. KastKing SuperPower is made from ultra high molecular weight polyethylene braid fiber, which also happens to be the same durable fiber that bullet proof vests are made out of.
While my favorite braid is made out of 8 strands, most of KastKing’s lines are made out of 4 individual strands. However, the higher test line (65 lb test and up) is made out of 8 strands.
KastKing SuperPower makes a great choice for frog fishing. Give it a try the next time you refill your baitcaster reel.
Like I mentioned earlier, there’s only a few important things to consider when choosing a good fishing line to use for frog fishing. Those are that you choose a braided line that is at least 50lb test and floats.
All of the lines I mention in this post meet these requirements, and I’m confident that you’d be happy using any one of them. But if asked to choose only one, then I highly recommend the P-Line TCB 8 Carrier. It’s quiet, strong and will last a long time.
